FLIGHT 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL LEGACY FUND

20 years…  A lifetime, a moment; forever, yesterday

As the Families of Flight 93 look back on the journey to memorialize our Loved Ones, there is no doubt that we can say our involvement was formidable, appreciated and played a significant role in one of the most extraordinary public/ private partnerships in the history of our country.  We can take pride in knowing that 30 of our family members representing 53% of our individual family units have served on the board of Families of Flight 93 and played an active role in this process.  From the fog of those early days when we first learned how our Loved Ones were torn from our embrace, to the triumph of our final dedication at the Tower of Voices in September, 2020, ours is a story of perseverance and passion, of love and dedication.

Our work is not done

The Families of Flight 93 charter identified our purpose as: “To assist in the construction of and help sustain a permanent memorial to the heroes of the United Airlines Flight Number 93 crash that occurred on September 11, 2001 in Shanksville, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.”  While we have completed the commitment to assist in construction, we now are faced with an opportunity to focus on sustaining our dream via supporting three key elements of the Flight 93 National Memorial Design most dear to our hearts.

In a time of diminishing budgets and evolving priorities, we must be ready and willing to once again take steps to assure that the honor and respect due our heroes is never in jeopardy.  For this reason, as the final act of our Families of Flight 93 board of directors, we worked with the Friends of Flight 93 to create The Flight 93 National Memorial Legacy Fund. Seeded with funds transferred to the Friends upon the closing of our corporate accounts, this Legacy Fund was established for the sole purpose of supplementing, not replacing, the cost of providing perpetual maintenance of the Sacred Ground, Wall of Names and Tower of Voices.

We want to make sure that the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial never has to compromise or prioritize spending when it comes to these three Memorial elements.

The Flight 93 National Memorial Legacy Fund was established with the singular intention of assuring that The Sacred Ground, Wall of Names and Tower of Voices, all key elements of the Flight 93 National Memorial design, will forever be maintained in a manner befitting the memory of the heroes of Flight 93.  The Sacred Ground, Wall of Names and Tower of Voices speak to the world of not only who our Loved Ones were, but tell the story of our Loved Ones selfless actions taken the morning of September 11, 2001.

All funds received into The Flight 93 National Memorial Legacy Fund will be restricted for the purpose of maintaining these three key elements of the Memorial design. The Legacy Fund will be managed by the Friends of Flight 93; the organization designated to work hand in hand with the National Park Service and committed to preserving the legacy of our Loved Ones.  Furthermore, with family involvement already present on the Friends’ Board of Directors, we have a continuing opportunity to have a voice and oversight in this Legacy Fund’s management.

We ask that you join us financially in supporting The Flight 93 National Memorial Legacy Fund. Contributions can either be made on-line or by check to the fund. (See our donation page)  Since the beginning, our goal has always been to honor the memory of our Loved Ones.  The establishment of this fund is the final action of our Families of Flight 93 organization. While we step back from the vigorous and honorable role we played in the development of the Memorial, it will be our Legacy, our gift, to those 40 cherished loved ones that we remember and love so deeply.  Please share this information with extended family members, friends, employers and anyone else that you feel would want to help us protect the memory of our loved ones and their inspirational legacy. Together we can all ensure that our dreams, memories and efforts will continue to inspire future generations of freedom loving people.
