Environmental Stewardship

Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial are dedicated to preserving the living landscape as envisioned in the original Flight 93 National Memorial design.

Through a variety of environmental stewardship initiatives Friends work tirelessly to ensure that the memorial landscape continues to be a fitting tribute to the heroes of Flight 93. These initiatives include habitat restoration, native plantings, trail building and other projects as identified by our partners at the National Park Service. By engaging volunteers and partnering with local organizations, Friends of Flight 93 not only honor the memory of those lives lost but also foster a deeper connection between the community and the environment. Their efforts help maintain the memorial as a place of reflection, education, and inspiration for current and future generations.

The Resiliency Project

The Resiliency Project is a 10-year remediation plan for the 40 Memorial Groves. The National Park Service, the Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation, Cornell University, Pennsylvania State University, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) have created a plan based on five years of scientific studies of soil, irrigation and tree species to restore the resiliency of the 40 Memorial Groves for future generations. The Friends of Flight 93 as the authorized philanthropic partner of the memorial have launched a campaign to restore this living tribute to the Flight 93 crew members and passengers.
