2023 Heroes' Walk

Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial hosted their 2nd annual Heroes' Walk at the Flight 93 National Memorial on September 9, 2023. This year's walk featured special guest speakers, including family members of Flight 93 passengers and crew members, who shared moving stories about their loved ones. The walk was unfortunately delayed due to potential lightning storms, resulting in the speeches being moved to the Memorial Plaza. Following the storm's passing, participants and family members continued the walk to the Western Overlook for the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

During the ceremony, Friends dedicated the enhanced Western Overlook that was made possible through fundraising efforts and the Army National Guard's support from the 333 Battalion from Reading, PA. This overlook holds significant historical value as it was the first place where families could view the crash site in September 2001 and where the crime scene investigation of Flight 93 occurred. Visitors can participate in the new interpretive program, "13 Days in September," a walking tour that highlights the site's historical importance.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our families, donors, sponsors, and the Flight 93 National Memorial maintenance team for their unwavering support, which helped us complete this meaningful project.

Smoke rising from crash

September 11, 2001 began as an ordinary, late-summer day. But, in less than two hours' time, this seemingly routine day was transformed when nineteen terrorists boarded and hijacked four airplanes to attack America.
